Frequently Asked Questions

FAQCan I get my water turned on/off at my house?
To get your water service turned on or off, please contact your local water utility. CCMWA is a wholesale provider for potable water and does not provide residential service. Please refer to your water bill for your water utility contact information. If you do not have a water bill and are unsure who your water utility is, contact your city hall or county board of commissioners.
How can I pay my water bill?
CCMWA is a water wholesaler and does not send out water bills to residents. If you have a question concerning a water bill, please contact your local water utility.
Is my water chlorinated?
CCMWA adds precise amounts of chlorine to the water during the treatment process to make sure it meets state and federal water quality standards.
Is my water fluoridated?
Georgia state law requires the addition of fluoride to drinking water for preventing dental decay and for its beneficial effect on the general health of the public.
What are the lake levels for Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier?
To see the current and predicted lake levels, please visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Web site at http://water.sam.usace.army.mil/fc.htm.
Is my water hard or soft?
Whether water is hard or soft is determined by measuring the minerals in the water. 100mg per liter of calcium carbonate is considered hard water, which is not conducive to foaming soaps and often has a slight odor. CCMWA’s water typically only has 21mg of calcium carbonate per liter, making it soft water. This is largely due to the fact that CCMWA receives its water from surface water sources and not ground water.
How do I convert grains per gallon (GPG) to milligrams per liter (mg/L)?
Grains per gallon is a common term of measurement also used to measure hardness of water.
1 grain per U.S. gallon (gpg) = 17.1 milligrams per liter (mg/L)
How long has the Authority been in existence?
The Georgia General Assembly established the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority in 1951 as a political subdivision of the state. Within two years, the Authority had set up operations and acquired a withdrawal permit on the Chattahoochee River.
Who receives water from the Authority?

CCMWA provides potable water on a wholesale basis to its customers who then sell it to homeowners and businesses. These customers include:

The Authority also provides water to:

  • Lockheed Martin Corporation
  • Southern Polytechnic State University

At one time Fulton County also purchased water from the Authority, but after developing additional withdrawals on the Chattahoochee River, it now has only an emergency connection to CCMWA.

Where does the Wyckoff WTP get its water?
The Wyckoff WTP withdraws water from Lake Allatoona, which is part of the Etowah River Basin. This makes the CCMWA one of the few multi-source water systems in Georgia.
How much water can the Wyckoff WTP produce?
The Wyckoff WTP is permitted to produce a maximum of 72 million gallons per day (MGD).
How much water can the Quarles WTP produce?
The Quarles WTP is permitted to produce a maximum of 86 million gallons per day (MGD).
What are the peak demand times?
Most water usage occurs in the early morning between 4 a.m. - 9 a.m. Demand slows during the middle of the day, when most people are at work or school, and increases in the evening between 7 p.m. - 11 p.m.
When can I water my lawn?
For the most accurate information on local watering regulations, please contact your City Hall or water utility as outdoor water use information varies from place to place.
