Level 1 Drought Response
On Monday, April 27, 2026, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) issued a Level 1 Drought Response declaration in response to drought conditions across the state. The U.S. Drought Monitor classifies the majority of Cobb County as being in severe drought, with a portion of eastern Cobb County in extreme drought. If conditions do not improve, the state may move to a Level 2 Drought Response declaration.
Under a Level 1 Drought Response, water providers are required to inform customers of measures they can take to conserve water. At this time, there are no additional mandatory water use restrictions and no enforcement actions associated with water usage under Level 1.
As a wholesale only water provider to water utilities, the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority (CCMWA) is actively working with its wholesale customers to support water conservation efforts and to help reduce water use and decrease the potential for drought-related strain on regional water supplies.
CCMWA encourages all customers to use water wisely and to take practical steps to conserve water during this drought response period.
Information on current drought conditions is available through the U.S. Drought Monitor’s Georgia page. Water conservation information is also available from the Georgia EPD, including links to water conservation resources provided by utilities across the state. In addition, the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District offers water conservation and irrigation guidance for residents, schools, and businesses. Customers are also encouraged to visit their local water provider’s website for conservation information specific to their area.
These resources offer practical tips and actions residents can take to conserve water indoors and outdoors whenever possible.
